Job Responsibilities
The Chief Engineer is responsible for the construction and maintenance of all civil engineering assets, which include:
1. Buildings: Station buildings, residential quarters, hospitals, sheds, workshop structures, and goods sheds.
2. Infrastructure: Water supply and sanitary installations, railway tracks, sidings, and all allied structures.
3. Bridges: Road over bridges and road under bridges.

Eligibility Criteria
1. Qualifications:
- IRSE Officers: Must be working in PML-14 of the 7th CPC.
- Engineering Executives: Must be working in other PSUs in IDA scale E8 (Rs. 1,20,000 – 2,80,000).
OR:
- IRSE Cadre Officers: Officers of the IRSE cadre of Indian Railways working in PML-13 of the 7th CPC with at least 16 years of experience.
- Civil Engineering Executives: Those working in other PSUs in IDA scale E6 (Rs. 90,000 – 2,40,000) with 16 years of experience.
2. Age Limit:
- Deputation: Below 55 years as of the date of notification.
- Permanent Absorption: Below 57 years as of the date of notification.

Pay Scale
- Position Level: Senior Administrative Grade (SAG)
- Salary: 7th CPC Pay Matrix, Level-14
- Equivalent Pay Band: ₹37,400 – ₹67,000 with Grade Pay of ₹10,000

Candidates may be appointed through either of the following methods:
1. Deputation
- Initial term: 3 years

2. Offline Submission (Through Proper Channel)
- Officers currently in Zonal Railways/PUs must submit their applications for deputation with the approval of the Competent Authority in the Ministry, per Railway Board guidelines (Letter No. 2018/E(O)I1/41/1 dated 08/02/2023).
- Zonal Railways/PUs are to forward these applications to the Railway Board at least 7 days before the closing date.
- Note: KRCL will only process applications that have been formally forwarded by the Railway Board.
