Eligibility Criteria
- Educational Qualification:
- The applicant must have obtained a Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science or an equivalent qualification on or before the last date of application.
- Language Proficiency:
- Candidates must have proper knowledge of the concerned language.
- It is desirable that the candidate studied the concerned language as a subject at the Intermediate level.
- Age Limit:
- The applicant’s age must be below 35 years on the last date of application.
4. National Library of India Recruitment 2024 : Stipend Details
Stipend Details
- Each intern will receive Rs. 25,000/- per month.
- This amount includes the cost of the candidate’s medical insurance policy.
Note:
It is mandatory for the candidate to obtain a medical insurance policy from a recognized insurance company during the period of the LIS Internship.
5. National Library of India Recruitment 2024 : Selection Process
1. Application Review:
All applications are checked based on your academic performance from:
- 10th grade
- 12th grade (Higher Secondary/Intermediate)
- Graduation
- Library Science degrees (BLISc and MLISc)
2. Shortlisting Candidates:
- Candidates are shortlisted based on their academic scores (highest percentage).
- For every available position, 10 candidates are called for the next round (this is called the 1:10 ratio).
- The Top 10 candidates are chosen based on their percentage or other criteria decided by the recruitment committee.
3. Marks Distribution:
Total Marks Assigned = 100
The selection process will be divided into two main categories:
- 45% weightage on Academic & Professional Qualifications (45 marks)
- 55% weightage on Subjective, Practical, and Interview (55 marks)

Marks will be awarded based on performance in Higher Secondary and Graduation levels:- Higher Secondary/Intermediate (12th Standard):
- 75% and above: 7 marks
- 60% to below 75%: 5 marks
- Below 60%: 3 marks
- Graduation:
- 75% and above: 8 marks
- 60% to below 75%: 7 marks
- Below 60%: 6 marks
- Higher Secondary/Intermediate (12th Standard):
- Professional Qualification (30 Marks)
Marks will be awarded based on performance in Library & Information Science (LIS) degrees:Where Master’s Degree (MLISc) is a 2-year program:- MLISc Marks:
- 75% and above: 30 marks
- 60% to below 75%: 25 marks
- 55% to below 60%: 15 marks
- 50% to below 55%: 10 marks
- BLISc Marks:
- 75% and above: 15 marks
- 60% to below 75%: 12 marks
- 55% to below 60%: 7 marks
- 50% to below 55%: 4 marks
- MLISc Marks:
- 75% and above: 15 marks
- 60% to below 75%: 13 marks

2. Subjective, Practical, and Interview (55 Marks)
- MCQ Exam (50 Marks)
This portion will test general knowledge and technical expertise relevant to LIS. - Practical Exam (25 Marks)
The practical exam will cover the following topics:- Cataloguing in English: 10 marks
- Cataloguing in an Indian Language: 10 marks
- Identification of MARC TAGS: 5 marks
- Interview (25 Marks)
Candidates will be evaluated based on communication skills, technical knowledge, and suitability for the role.
4. Final Selection:
- The top scorer in each language, based on the total marks from both the academic/professional qualifications and the practical/interview sections, will be selected as an LIS Intern.
- A panel of candidates will also be drawn accordingly.
- No TA/DA will be provided for joining the internship, and selected candidates must submit a Medical Certificate from a Government hospital before joining.
